HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro (Hifiberry digi+ pro)

The HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro is the high-end version of our well-known HiFiBerry Digi+. HiFiBerry Digi+ Pro is a high-quality S/PDIF output for the Raspberry Pi enhanced with features that not only further improve sound quality, but gives makers the chance to modify the board to their needs. It uses the I2S sound port that connects directly to the CPU without the need for an additional USB conversion.

You will need a distribution with an up-to-date kernel (at least summer 2016). The drivers are included in the latest versions of most common distributions.

HiFiBerry DIGI+ Pro Features:

This is the HiFiBerry DAC+ Pro with a pair of RCA jacks. It can be simply plugged onto your Raspberry and does not need any soldering.

USB Sound Adapter for the Raspberry Pi (usb to audio)
The Raspberry Pi has an on-board audio jack, which is super handy for all kinds of sound effects and speech, just plug and go! However, for when you want better audio for music playback, a USB audio card can greatly improve the sound quality and volume. That's because the on-board audio is generated by a PWM output and is minimally filtered. Don't get us wrong, it's a great thing to have audio on board but this USB audio card will make it even better!
 
We like this particular dongle for not being too bulky, you can plug it in without blocking the secondary USB port. It also works great, takes only a minute to configure and test it on your Pi. 
 
At this time we have a tutorial for setting it up for audio output, we don't recommend it if you need Mic input. 
 
This device also works great with Windows machines and should also function for Macs, but we are carrying it specifically for Pi usage.

CONNECTING TO POWER

The HiFiBerry Amp+ will be mounted on top of the Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi will be powered by the Amp. It is not allowed to connect 5V to the Micro-USB port of the Raspberry Pi. Power supply is only one external 12-18V power supply that will be connected directly to the HiFiBerry Amp. Check out the connection diagram on the pics at the top.

HifiBerry recommends power supplies from 12V 3A to 18V 4A.

Tall enough to host a wide range of add-on board and slim enough to look cool, the HighPi case sets a new standard for ease of use and versatility. It's just a fraction of an inch taller than most of the “standard” cases, but designed to perfectly host many add-on boards like all 3 the HiFiBerry boards. The HighPi is designed and made in Canada from high quality ABS material. 

Installing or removing the Raspberry Pi board is astonishingly quick, simple, and secure; all without tools or assembly. One snap action locks the Pi board into the case; the second secures the lid, rattle free. Remove the Pi board and the lid with one-finger-releases for each. Genius!

Whether you’re running a plain Raspberry Pi board or modding it to the max, the HighPi case has your Pi covered. Generous internal room allows HATs, break-out boards, or heat sinks. Vents on three sides double as fly-through cable ports for the GPIO and whatever else you need to connect to. A two-section break-out allows you to choose how much of the A/V side of the case to open up for connectors on attached boards.

This case is one of the first to perfectly accommodate the full line of HiFiBerry audio boards. Use one break-out section for DAC+ and Digi+, and both for the Amp+. There is generous clearance around the RCA connectors for bulky, high-end cables. Achieve the sound you want in a clean case design that fits right, right away.

The HighPi case can be wall mounted horizontally with two screws for easy removal, or mounted in any orientation including upside-down with four screws from inside the case. When wall mounted horizontally, the A/V and audio cables hang downward from the Pi, improving visual tidiness and reducing the need for support of heavy cables.

Just connect your Raspberry Pi DAC HAT to a set of powered speakers or an audio amplifier and you can be up and running quickly, enjoying flawless high quality audio playback within minutes of unboxing this. Includes a 384kHz/32 bit DAC chip with hardware volume mixing as well as a 138mW headphone amplifier (note that the Raspberry Pi is only capable of a 192kHz/32bit output). Outputs are line level over RCA and headphone amplified over 3.5mm jack cable. The HAT uses the I2S interface for its audio input which reduces CPU load on the Raspberry Pi compared to USB solutions. It is also powered directly from the GPIO header so no extra cables or power supplies are required to connect to the Raspberry Pi. Allo Piano 2.1 Hi-Fi DAC (Subwoofer Out) (Allo Piano 2.1)

Piano can work as a 2.0 (all frequencies are passed to LR) as a 2.2 (xover frequency is chosen in GUI) and subwoofer has 2 outputs or as a 2.1 (same as 2.2 but subwoofer is mono).

We are using 2 DAC Ic's PCM5142 with integrated DSP. The PurePath software from TI is available for download (registration required) and can be used to create specific filters and other audio functions.

The board will come pre-programed as a 2.1 output (but you can create your own custom design and load it the board and can access the xover frequency directly from linux (we made a small app).

Hardware wise, we have split the digital and analog side with LDOs and we feed the analog side using an extremely capable LDO LT3042 which is having ultra low noise and ultra high PSRR.. Basically each board has 4 LDO (2 for each DAC ic) (note that digital side uses cheaper LDOs).

Of course, on the analog side we used only thin film resistors and poly caps in audiopath.

Kali The Goddess of Time
Every SBC has a crystal that it used to send digital signals to your DACs.

The accuracy of this crystal is very important in how well the DAC will transform the digital signal into analog sounds. Simply put: a better crystal means a better sound! Most SBCs use a very cheap crystal with lots of jitter in order to save costs.

Furthermore, there are 2 kinds of frequencies for digital files: 44.1Khz (wave files) and 48khz (streamed music). Some SBCs (like RPIs) can output only 48Khz, so imagine the degradation of the sound that was recorded at a different frequency.

Kali will solve both of those problems
First, it has a very low jitter NDK crystal feed by LDOs in series for ultra quiet power supply. Second, the FPGA will read the incoming stream, will buffer the DATA 0.7s while discarding the incoming clocks. Using the NDKs it will reclock the buffered data OUTSIDE the fpga (since fpgas introduce about 200ps of jitter) and provide a MCLK/BCLK that is direct from crystal, providing a jitter-free (almost) to your DAC.

Meanwhile, it will clock the file using the correct crystal (there are 2), fixing the problems outlined in the beginning.

Works great with Piano
Kali will not work if your DAC is a master. Dac has to be slave. We highly recommend our Piano 2.1 - they were designed to work perfectly toghether!

The million dollar question (actually $75): how does it sound?
Well, the music will "open up". The stage will sound bigger, more tri-dimensional. You will hear sounds, words, instruments that were drowned before in a sea of digital mud.

Is it worth it?
Do you enjoy a better wine/microbrewery beer, or anything will do? Do you have some medium/good speakers or you are using the cheapest PC speakers? Do you love music or just want to hear some beats? We can’t answer the question for you. It’s your choice.

Kali needs to be powered from 5V (cannot be powered from SBC) and also note that Kali will power the SBC + DAC.

HiFiBerry DAC+ Zero (hifiberry dac+ zero)

This is HiFiBerry's smallest board! In the Raspberry Pi Zero form factor, it can be used not only with the Raspberry Pi Zero, but also with the bigger Raspberry Pi B+/2 and 3. 

Sometimes it just has to be small. For this use case we have build the DAC+ Zero, that fits perfectly onto a Raspberry Pi Zero. It does not have the advanced features as volume control, EEPROM, ultra-low-noise regulators, but still offers a very good sound quality and 192kHz/24bit playback.

The board comes without spacers and male header (the male header is needed to mount it on the Raspberry Pi Zero, all other Raspberry Pi boards already have the male header mounted).

Note that for the Raspberry PI zero, you need to solder a 40-pin male header to the board. This header isn’t included but we do sell them separately!

HiFiBerry Pi Zero MiniAMP (hifiberry amp zero)

This is HiFiBerry's smallest amplifier board, designed for the Raspberry Pi Zero. The HiFiBerry MiniAmp is a tiny, highly efficient Class-D power amplifier for the Raspberry Pi Zero, but also works with the bigger Raspberry Pi B+/2 and 3. 

Sometimes it just has to be small. While its Class-D amplifier provides only 3 Watts of power, this if often enough for small music players like kitchen radios, a radio clock or a small music player for your kids. The board is powered by the Raspberry Pi power supply and does not require an additional power supply. Speakers just have to be connected directly to the board, which makes it an ideal module for low-profile applications where the power of our Amp+ is not needed.

The board comes with pre-soldered female header, so you'll need to make sure your Zero has a male header installed.
