TEC1-12715 12V Peltier Plate Module (Peltier 12V 40x40)
Description:

Thermoelectric coolers (TEC or Peltier) create a temperature differential on each side. One side gets hot and the other side gets cool. Therefore, they can be used to either warm something up or cool something down, depending on which side you use. You can also take advantage of a temperature differential to generate electricity.

This Peltier works very well as long as you remove the heat from the hot side. After turning on the device, the hot side will heat quickly, the cold side will cool quickly. If you do not remove the heat from the hot side (with a heat sink or other device), the Peltier will quickly reach stasis and do nothing. We recommend using an old computer CPU heatsink or other block of metal to pull heat from the hot side. We were able to use a computer power supply and CPU heatsink to make the cold side so uncomfortably cold we could not hold our finger to it.

Note: It is imperative that a heat sink is used on the hot side of the module. Running the module without one can cause damage to this part. If it’s too hot to comfortably touch, you’re in the danger zone!

The Hobbywing 5V 3A UBEC is a switch-mode type, which results in it being much more efficient than linear type UBEC's (so your batteries will last longer!)

UBEC's are perfect for applications where you plan to use the Raspberry Pi in a circuit with high voltages such as robots where you'll be driving motors!

Due to the voltage drop caused by the Raspberry Pi, it is recommended to input a minimum of 6.5V to receive a stable 5V output. Anything lower than 6.5V will result in a low voltage warning on the Pi.

The L293DNE Dual H-Bridge IC is able to run four solenoids, two DC motors or one bi-polar or uni-polar stepper motor, with up to 600mA per channel!
 
Each chip contains two full H-bridges (four half H-bridges) which means you can drive four solenoids, two DC motors bi-directionally, or one stepper motor. Just make sure they're good for under 600 mA since that's the limit of this chip. They do handle a peak of 1.2A but that's just for a short amount of time. What we like most about this particular driver is that it comes with built in kick-back diodes internally so you dont have to worry about the inductive kick damaging your project or driver

We have used the HC-SR04 Ultrasonic Distance Sensor many times  and for many good reasons. It is pretty easy to use, it performs well, and it is very inexpensive. For collision avoidance robots or intruder detection, this sensor is usually all you’ll need.

However, using the HC-SR04 outside is a different story. It is a pretty fragile device and can easily be damaged by dirt, or even high winds. And, above all, it is not waterproof.
