10-bit ADC (SPI) MCP3008 - 8 Channel (10-bit ADC 8 Channel)

The Raspberry Pi is a great computer but there's just one thing that most hardware hackers will find missing: a few inputs for connecting analog sensors. This is where the MCP3008 chip comes in handy, with eight 10-bit channels accessible over SPI. Thanks to the Raspberry Pi's SPI interfaces and its two 'Chip Select' pins available off of the main GPIO connector, the problem is solved.

How-To

The following sample assumes that you're running the latest official Raspbian distribution, that you're logged in as root and that you haven't yet customized Raspbian to use SPI from a Python script. By default, the kernel module managing SPI communications is not loaded on Raspbian, so let's ensure that the 'spidev' device is available.

If 'spidev' device is not listed, we need to remove it from the kernel module 'blacklist' so that it's automatically loaded on the next boot:

The 'spidev' device should now be available.

Next, install the 'git' package. It will be needed to install other packages from Github.

Kit Requirements. What will I need to get?

What is DTT?


DTT stands for Digital Terrestrial Television (or Transmission). It refers to the terrestrial, or land-based, broadcasting of digital television. Important Notes & Tips

 

The image will automatically resize on first boot to utilize the full space available on your MicroSD card.
The image automatically starts tvheadend on reboot.
Login to console or remote terminal session with user pi password raspberry and run the following two commands.
To scan for available channels / services you first need to stop the tvheadend application, type the following commands.

sudo killall -9 tvheadend
sudo w_scan -x


Once your scan is completed and you have the information needed remember to reboot your Raspberry Pi.
To list the available URL's to access your device features as well as further instructions either look at the Raspberry Pi console screen greeting message or type.

sudo cat /etc/issue

TVHeadend already has default user admin created with password admin.
Then connect to your new TVheadend server from a remote computer using the URL from above ( format is http://ipaddress:9981 )

Root username is root password raspberry.
Standard username is pi password raspberry.

SSH and FTP access is enabled for user root.

To open the channel list on VLC connect to http://ipaddress:9981/playlist/channels then click view, channel list.

Enabling and integrating Kodi

To enable Kodi to load on boot up run the included advanced configuration menu by typing (Below) then select Kodi Configuration menu then Enable on boot up option.

First configure a username and password for the kodi integration on the tvheadend backend server web interface and allow HTSP streaming rights.

Add the configuration to Kodi under addons -> my addons -> PVR Clients -> TvHeadend HTSP Client as follows

Username: (As set on TVheadend backend)

Connection Timeouts and Response timeouts work fine as default setting.

Waterproof DS18B20 Digital temperature sensor + Resistor 1M (Waterproof DS18B20 temp)

Description:

This is a pre-wired and waterproofed version of the DS18B20 sensor.  Handy for when you need to measure something far away, or in wet  conditions. While the sensor is good up to 125°C the cable is jacketed  in PVC so we suggest keeping it under 100°C. Because they are digital,  you don't get any signal degradation even over long distances! These  1-wire digital temperature sensors are fairly precise (±0.5°C over much  of the range) and can give up to 12 bits of precision from the onboard  digital-to-analog converter. They work great with any microcontroller  using a single digital pin, and you can even connect multiple ones to  the same pin, each one has a unique 64-bit ID burned in at the factory  to differentiate them. Usable with 3.0-5.0V systems.

The only  downside is they use the Dallas 1-Wire protocol, which is somewhat  complex, and requires a bunch of code to parse out the communication. If  you want something really simple, and you have an analog input pin,  the TMP36 is trivial to get going.

We toss in a 4.7k resistor, which is required as a pullup from the DATA to VCC line when using the sensor.

The Raspberry Pi does not feature an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), so if you want to measure analogue singals, you'll need this 12-Bit ADC!

The Adafruit 4-Channel I2C 12-Bit ADC is a high-precision ADC and features the ADS1015 chip, which provides 12-bit precision at 3300 samples/second over I2C. The chip can be configured as 4 single-ended input channels, or two differential channels. As a nice bonus, it even includes a programmable gain amplifier,with up to x16, to help boost smaller single/differential signals to the full range. We like this ADC because it can run from 2V to 5V power/logic, can measure a large range of signals and its super easy to use. It is a great general purpose 12 bit converter. 

The chip's fairly small so it comes on a breakout board with ferrites to keep the AVDD and AGND quiet and interfacing is done via I2C. The address can be changed to one of four options (see the datasheet table 5 in downloads below) so you can have up to 4 ADS1015's connected on a single 2-wire I2C bus for 16 single ended inputs. 
 
To get you started, we have example code for the Raspberry Pi - Simply connect GND to ground, VDD to your logic power supply, and SCL/SDA to your microcontroller's I2C port and run the example code to start reading data.
